Proposed Amendment to CalChiefs Constitution & By-Laws

All Members,Attached is a proposal from President Elect Jeff Meston to modify the CalChiefs Constitution and By-Laws.  The full board (eBoard and Area Directors) have approved the proposal to move forward to the CalChiefs membership. Chief Meston’s proposal is linked here and can be found on the CalChiefs web homepage.  This is the official 60-day noticing.  Any member wanting to respond with a reason not to adopt the change, or to make a change to the amendment, can do so by sending it to the CalChiefs Executive Director at [email protected] prior to the Annual Conference General Membership meeting on September 26, 2018.  This amendment will be up for a vote of approval at this meeting.  Following is the proposed amendment.

ARTICLE VI
Amendments
Section 1 –  The Full Board shall have full power to alter, amend or revise this constitution, providing that notice of such alteration, amendment or revision shall have been posted to the website with notification sent to voting members at least sixty (60) days prior to the vote for approval by a majority of the Full Board.  A two-thirds majority vote of the members entitled to vote, who are present and voting, or whom respond via an electronic voting process, shall be necessary for the adoption of any such alteration, amendment or revision.
Section 2 – All amendments, alterations or revisions shall take effect immediately upon adoption by the membership unless otherwise provided.
A current version of the Constitution and By-Laws shall be posted on the Association’s website and made available to any member upon request within a reasonable timeframe.

  1. Retired Member. All retired fire service personnel that retired from a position eligible for active or group membership shall be entitled to all privileges and benefits provided by the Association except they shall not be entitled to hold elected office on the Associations Board of Directors. Dues for Retired Member shall not exceed 50% of the regular membership dues amount.

May serve the remaining balance of their term in the position of President and Immediate Past President in retirement.  All other retired members shall not be entitled to hold elected office on the Association Board of Directors.  Dues for Retired Members shall not exceed 50% of the regular membership dues amount.
